Photocopy of a typescript with the German dialogue of the film “A Short Film About Killing” / “Ein kurzer Film über das Töten” (1988), the feature-length version of the fifth part of the cycle “Decalogue, five” (1988-1989) directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski, made from a screenplay by Krzysztof Kieślowski and Krzysztof Piesiewicz, with cinematography by Sławomir Idziak and produced by the Tor Film Studio. The document is titled “Ein kurzer Film über das Töten – Deutsches Dialogbuch” and takes the form of a multi-page dialogue list in German, intended for recording the dubbed dialogue version. The text is divided into successive acts marked with the headings “Erster Akt”. “Zweiter Akt”. “Neunter Akt”. and within each part the characters’ lines are written out along with numerous technical notes in parentheses: information on the manner of delivering lines, non-verbal sounds (Atmer – breathing, Gelächter – laughter, Laute – sounds), and brief descriptions of situations. The typescript also contains instructions for sound editing (e.g., “2. Band”. “Archivschleife”) and notes on fragments that should remain in the original language version (e.g., the radio announcer’s voice). The document is a clean working copy which, in the available reproduction, contains no visible handwritten corrections, and constitutes the complete record of the German translation of the film’s dialogue.
