Typescript with an essay by Krzysztof Kieślowski written within the “Experience and Future” seminar after the introduction of martial law (1982). The author analyses the causes of the political situation after 13 December, asking whether it could have been prevented. He critically describes the attitude of the intelligentsia toward “Solidarity”. the lack of a programme within the union, the “disorder” exploited by the authorities, and the growing crisis of trust in state institutions. His assessment of the authorities’ actions has a strongly moral dimension (a betrayal of the workers who brought them to power). In the conclusion, the author considers possible forms of passive resistance, the preservation of dignity and social potential, and the need for research and analysis concerning the future. The typescript takes the form of a continuous text with few handwritten corrections.
