Typescript copy with the screenplay for Krzysztof Kieślowski’s film “From the City of Łódź” (1969). The film presents an impressionistic portrait of Łódź – a city of textile industry and social and architectural contrasts – shot with cinematography by Janusz Kreczmański, Piotr Kwiatkowski, and Stanisław Niedbalski. Before the film received its final title, work on it proceeded under the working titles “The People of Łódź” and “The City of Łódź”. The document is divided into thematic blocks (including “Work”. “Customs”. “Ciuksza”. “Displays”). They describe the planned observational sequences: factory interiors, courtyards and gateways with children and young people, celebrations of the Textile Worker’s Day, the defence of the Ciuksza team, sales and fairs, the Sunday “play cooperative” in the park, the speedway stadium, as well as overcrowded apartments and old workers’ housing estates. The notes function as a sketch of the film’s structure, written as brief situation descriptions without dialogues. Another version of this document bears the signature ATKK-ZMŁ-I-047.
