Typescript with the screenplay for Krzysztof Kieślowski’s film “The Photograph” (1968), produced for Polish Television by the Television Film Production Unit. The document describes the successive stages of the film: soldier Józef Rybicki’s account of the circumstances in which the photograph of two boys with submachine guns was taken in a courtyard on Brzeska Street in 1944; then the search for the subjects of the photograph in the Praga courtyard, stairwells, and apartments; and, if successful, the meeting with them as adult men. The notes envisage recording the entire search process, juxtaposing neighbours’ recollections with the protagonists’ own memories, and editing the old photograph together with scenes from their contemporary lives and their children. The typescript has a working character, with variant shots and fragments of commentary.
