Photocopy of a typescript containing Krzysztof Kieślowski’s project for the three feature films “Three colors”. The document opens with an essayistic description of the trilogy’s premise: a reflection on the contemporary meaning of the slogans liberty, equality, fraternity, symbolised by the colors of the French flag, and on the duality of human nature (the yearning for freedom and the need for “bondage”, the illusion of equality, the ambivalent nature of fraternity). The text emphasises that the films are to tell simple, personal stories, without an explicit thesis, and that the ideological meaning should arise from the juxtaposition of the three titles: “blue film”, “white film”, “red film”. The subsequent part contains French-language production materials for the trilogy (cast, crew, shooting schedule).
