Photocopy of a typescript with the shooting script for the television film “Decalogue” (1988-1989) directed by Krzysztof Kieślowski, made from screenplays by Krzysztof Kieślowski and Krzysztof Piesiewicz and produced by the Tor Film Studio for Polish Television. The header contains the title “Decalogue, four. Shooting script for a TV film / 2 episodes / 650 m” and the authors’ names: Krzysztof Pakulski, Krzysztof Kieślowski, which indicates the technical, production-oriented character of the document, prepared jointly by the director and the cinematographer. The typescript was created in October 1986 in Warsaw. It includes a list of scenes specifying filming locations, footage length, and page numbers (e.g., “In front of the house”. “Airport. Departure hall”. “Ophthalmologist’s office”. “Basement”. “Rehearsal room of the theatre school”. “Staircase”), a list of roles with assigned scene numbers (elderly man, doctor, professor, head physician, neighbours, etc.), as well as a block of cinematographic and set design notes (information on film stock, style of cinematography, predominance of long takes and in-frame editing, nature of exterior locations, and description of the protagonists’ main apartment). The main part of the document takes the form of a detailed shooting script with numbered scenes, headings indicating location and time of day (e.g., “Anka and Michał’s apartment – int. natural light – day / night”. “In front of the airport – ext. – day”. “Basement – int. natural light – day”), written dialogues, and descriptions of camera movement and action (including the motif of the mysterious envelope “Not to be opened before my death”. and doubts concerning kinship). The document is a clean typescript which, in the available copy, contains no visible handwritten corrections, and constitutes the complete production shooting script for the film “Decalogue, four”.
