A typescript with the explanation for Krzysztof Kieślowski’s film “I was a soldier” (1970). Before the film had this title, the work was carried out under the working titles “One world for all” and “The Blind”. The film was made together with Andrzej Titkow, a colleague of the director from the Film School in Łódź. Production took place outside the parent Documentary Film Studio, at the “Czołówka” Film Studio. In the explanation, the director explains the technical aspects of making the film – the need to use 16 mm film, which will be copied onto 35 mm film, due to the exceptional working conditions with the film’s characters and the specification of the premises. This is also supported by the subject of the film and the choice of characters – soldiers who lost their sight during the war. In connection with this, the director also explains the need for the presence of an assistant director.
