Description

A typescript with a draft version of a letter from Krzysztof Kieślowski to Mr. Jerzy Bajdor, Program Director of the National Film School, requesting a higher artistic rating for the film “The Scar” (1976). The author of the film supports his request with differences of opinion between the cinematographic authorities and the political authorities, which are difficult to reconcile, especially from the point of view of a director of a contemporary film. Among the arguments there is also information about the very good reception of the film by film critics, who reviewed the film in the weekly “Ekran”, as well as the appreciation of Franciszek Pieczka’s role – not only in the magazine, but also as part of the FFF (Feature Film Festival) in Gdańsk, where the film won the Special Award, and Franciszek Pieczka was honored with an acting award. The draft version of the letter also contains a note from the author indicating that the final version of the letter should be supplemented with a note about the manipulation of quotes and historical problems. The document contains numerous handwritten corrections and notes by the author.
