Typescript with the theatrical adaptation of Stefan Zweig’s text “The Royal Game” for Krzysztof Kieślowski’s television production Checking the King” (1972). The document takes the form of a dialogue screenplay with numbered scenes and descriptions of the locations of action (including the ship’s deck, salon, corridors, the “Metropol” hotel, and a cell). The lines of the main characters (including Doctor B., the Narrator, and Centovic) are written out along with detailed stage directions: stage movement, manner of speaking, changes of shot, and flashbacks. The typescript constitutes the working basis for the production of the television play.
