We are continuing the project to digitise and provide access to the Krzysztof Kieślowski Archive! Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage under the Digital Culture 2026 programme, we are working on cataloguing, preserving, digitising and making available another part of this unique collection documenting Krzysztof Kieślowski’s creative work.
This year, we are making available:
– 1,000 photographs
– 1,215 pages of documents (145 archival units)
– 10 film posters
The materials currently being processed include screenplays, shooting scripts, typescripts, dialogue lists, correspondence and production documentation related, among others, to the films “Dekalog”, “Blind Chance”, “X-Ray”, “Pension”, “The Office”, “From the City of Łódź”, “From a Night Porter’s Point of View”, “Curriculum Vitae”, “The Life of a Good Polish Citizen”, “Three Colours: Blue” and “Three Colours: White”. A particularly valuable part of this year’s work is documentation originating from the TOR Film Unit, which offers insight into the film production process, successive stages of screenplay development and the institutional context in which Kieślowski’s films were made.
One of the most important collections being processed in 2026 is also a set of 1,000 photographs from the set of “Three Colours: Blue” by Piotr Jaxa. The photographs document behind-the-scenes work on the film, the director’s collaboration with the crew and the process of creating the film for which Krzysztof Kieślowski received the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival in 1993.

On Google Arts & Culture, we are also developing thematic collections devoted to photographs from the sets of the “Three Colours” trilogy. The materials will be accompanied by detailed metadata in Polish and English, while the textual documentation will undergo OCR processing to make its content easier to access. At the same time, we are preserving the original materials, cataloguing and registering them, and preparing them for long-term storage in accordance with archival standards.
In 2026, the Archive website will also feature four texts prepared by film scholars and specialists collaborating with the Krzysztof Kieślowski Archive. They will be accompanied by educational activities devoted to archival work, digitisation and digital storytelling, aimed, among others, at students of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the Łódź Film School.
Each successive stage of the project allows us not only to preserve Krzysztof Kieślowski’s material legacy, but also to examine his creative process in ever greater detail. Screenplays, successive drafts, notes, production documentation and photographs reveal the story of how his films were made from a perspective that cannot be seen on screen. Through digitisation, these materials can become a source of knowledge and inspiration for students, researchers, artists, cinema enthusiasts and everyone interested in Krzysztof Kieślowski’s work.
