Description
Typescript copy of with a letter from Krzysztof Kieślowski to the Film Editorial Office of the Documentary Film Studio (WFD), written after completing the film From the City of Łódź. The author explains why, for several months, he has not begun work on a new documentary, giving a detailed account of the fate of several unrealised subjects: “Catastrophe”, “Harvest”, “Before the Cruise”, “Factory”, “Million”, “Child”, and “Excursion”. For each topic he cites officials’ positions, institutional bans, technical and financial problems on the part of television, as well as his own doubts. The letter takes the form of an extensive, continuous exposition on the barriers to producing documentary films. The copy contains no handwritten corrections.
