ATKK-AT-TYL-001
Typescript with Krzysztof Kieślowski’s concept for an original theatre production titled “Backstage”. The text was written on commission for the Teatr Nowy in Poznań. The action takes place behind the scenes of a performance of “The Miser” and simultaneously shows the actors playing Molière’s characters and their “real” roles in the theatre (the director, the union leader, the assistant director, a SPATiF activist), as well as technical staff (the prompter, stage manager, stagehands, wardrobe staff, electricians). The document contains an extensive list of characters and a detailed description of the stage space: dressing rooms, the prompter’s position, the stage manager’s desk, the rear side of Harpagon’s house set, wings with ladders and ropes, a window overlooking the performance of “The Miser”. and a device for artificial snow. In an introductory letter to a collaborator, the author explains the convention of the work – action unfolding on multiple planes during the real-time progression of the staged performance.
